Pt. Sudhindra Bhaumik

 Text Box: Pandit Sudhindra Bhaumik was introduced to the world of Classical Music, while still in college, by Pandit Biswanath Sur of Calcutta. Later, he came in contact with Late Pandit Ramarao V. Naik, Pandit S.C.R. Bhatt, Late Pandit K.G.Ginde, Pandit Dinkar Kaikini and honed his skills in Agra Gharana Gayaki for over 3 decades. In addition, he received personal guidance in Thumri from the world renowned Padma Bhushan Late Smt. Shobha Gurtu. A student for life, Pandit-ji continues his study with Pandit Y.M. Mahale, a direct disciple of Late Pandit. S.N. Ratanjankar.

Text Box: Pandit Sudhindra Bhaumik is a graded artiste in All India Radio and Doordarshan and has perfomed a number of times in these media. In addition, he has performed extensively throughout India and enthralled audience with his open voice, gayaki & techniques. One of the living legends of the Agra Gharana, Pandit Bhaumik is one of the torch bearers of Faiz Khani style of music. His signature is in his soulful rendition of nomtom alaap, bolbant and intricate layakari and taan. His versatility and skills to perform dhrupad-dhamar, khayal, thumri, tappa, hori and bhajans with ease and delicacy sets him apart from his contemporaries.
Pandit-ji has an impecceble academic records with degrees in Engineering and Management from IIT & IIM, two most prestigious schools in India. He is also a Sangeet Visharad and served as  a senior faculty of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Mumbai for more than a decade. He found his calling in music and dedicated his life in its pursuit; learning, teaching and propagating the art of Hindustani Music to the world.

At 62, Pandit-ji leads a simple saintly life in Mumbai.

Sri Kuntal Roy

Text Box: Kuntal Roy is an up and coming Tabla player based in Kolkata, India. Kuntal was initiated into tabla by Sri Narayan Chandra Halder at a very early age. He continued his studies with Sri Radha Raman Nath, a student of Pt. Anindo Chatterjee from 1984. Kuntal has been a disciple of Pt. Shankar Ghosh since 1991. He also frequently receives talim from Sri Vikram Ghosh on different aspects of rhythm.

Text Box: Melody, clarity and precision are some of the characteristics of Kuntal’s playing. Kuntal has already given a number of solo as well as accompaniment performances with vocal and instrumental music and dance on the stage in India and abroad. He has participated in percussion ensembles composed and directed by Sri Bikram Ghosh. He is currently on a concert tour in the United States of America. He visited the USA in the Fall of 2006 providing tabla accompaniment to the renowned sitar player Gaurav Mazumdar. They received high accolades for their performances from appreciative audiences in venues such as Seattle, Spokane, Boise, Portland, and Cornell University among others. He has also accompanied notable artists including Pandit Nayan Ghosh in concerts. He also teaches tabla to a number of students and conducts workshops.

Kuntal possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Calcutta University.

 
Mausam

Text Box: Mausam is a born rasika of music and plays both harmonium and tabla with great feeling.  Employed as a faculty member in the Computer Science department at the University of Washington, he is an active volunteer for Ragamala, Pratidhwani and other musical organizations.  He has also been involved with SPICMACAY in the past.  Currently, Mausam studies vocal music from Dr. Sharad Gadre.
