Improv like a Wow!
Six Week Improvisation Intensive
Sunday, Aug 25th - Sept 29th
2:00PM - 5:00PM
Location TBD
No Script, no jokes, just a whole lot of play!
Learn the fundamentals of improvisation led by Seattle’s very own Desi Improvisor Siddhant Sharma. In this 6-week course we will discover how to actively listen and collaborate to improvise scenes, characters and stories on stage and have fun doing it.
We will build on the core principles of improv (Listening, Accepting, Commitment, Expansion) and story building blocks (Character, Relationship, Objective & Where) to create improvised stories on stage. Students will learn how to apply these concepts to play short-form improv games and long-form improv formats with confidence and joy!
Curriculum
-
Week 1: Yes And! – Improv’s fundamental principal and how we can be confident and supportive in our scenes.
-
Week 2: Commitment – How emotional commitment and strong choices by characters create interest and humor in scenes.
-
Week 3: CROW – Introduction to the building blocks of a scene, Character, Relationship, Objective & Where). Character and Relationship focus.
-
Week 4: Question of the scene (Objective) – What does a character want in a scene? What is the central question that needs to be answered in a scene?
-
Week 5: Games – Short-form improv games and what makes them work?
-
Week 6: Long-form – How to tell a coherent narrative over multiple improvised scenes.
If you have attended Pratidhwani's previous Improv workshops, you will have an opportunity to build upon the skills you developed. If not, no worries - no prior experience in improv is required for this workshop, just bring yourself! This is our next step towards building a diverse South Asian community of Improvisors in Seattle. As we grow this community and enjoy playing with each other, our goal is to create one (or more) improv troupe’s to perform shows.

Siddhant (Sid) Sharma is an ensemble member at Unexpected Productions – Seattle’s older improv theatre company. He is also a founding member of Seattle’s quintessential desi improv trio – Let’s Chaat! Siddhant has been improvising all around the Puget Sound area since 2016, having done long form improv shows with Jet City Improv (Yes Anderson, Monster Hunters) and Unexpected Productions (Campfire, Mixtape, NewsFeed etc.) and short form show – TheatreSports at Pike Place Market. He has also performed in Indie groups like Fancy Cafeteria (Musical Improv), Let’s Chaat! (Desi Improv) & Yesterday’s Cake (Long-form). Siddhant moved to the US in 2009. After a few amazing years in the Midwest, he moved to Seattle in 2016 and found improv. He believes that the best improv comes when we express our authentic identities on stage – and for him that involves an amalgam of the immigrant identity, comedy and music!
